It was a Tuesday. I was having a particularly rough day at work and was sad. Sad is not really a normal emotion for me to carry over for several hours, so it was rather traumatizing. Josh knew this.
And then Taka sent out this timely blog post: I cam make you happy with this tuna if you are sad..
Well, it certainly did look good. And I was sad. But money is tight right now. So I sent it to Josh with low expectations. But hooray, he came over and offered to go!
Apparently, another sushi house closed recently which means that Taka is always packed and busy. That's good for him! And maybe a little less good for us.
It was totally packed. We were asked if we had a reservation! We did not and I saw two tables with "reserved" markers on them. We ended up hanging out on the patio with a beer and hot tea. It was nice out, so it wasn't bad. And we didn't wait too long.
We got a table. A table one over us had ordered one of the two tuna collars. I do not think they did it justice.
Josh planned to start with a soba salad, so I was going to get the tuna tartare. But we always listen to the specials and the very last one was for this ohtoro don. I got that. And oh my god, it was amazing. The ohtoro was so luscious and delicious. The wasabi mixture on top was spicy and good.
After that, we ordered the sashimi omakase, which was delicious as always. I was pretty full, but I really wanted the cold ramen. After all, when you aren't making it to Taka all the time, you want more things.
So we got a cold ramen, which they thoughtfully split for us. Hooray! I started eating it with the mustard they provide and it is awesome.
I left full and incredibly happy.
Also, Taka now recommends reservations.
