We are not very aggressive early morning shoppers. I do put Josh in line and then move around collecting things, but those mushroom grabbers at the Indian Ridge tent, inclusive of the jackass with his bike in the tent... you make me hate farmers markets.
I had emailed Michael at Storico Fresco the night before asking for a long list of things, but explaining that I only wanted three or four things. As it worked out, not everything on his list is available each week. We started off with the special for this week, an agnolli stuffed with genoa salami, leeks, and ricotta. We also picked up more pi fasacc, which I explained we had just had and it was so delicious. We also picked up some of the scarpinocc which comes stuffed with "a blend of spices, grana padono, garlic and bits of butter-infused bread". That one is new for us, too.
We also talked a little bit about my disaster with the chickpea pasta and pesto. I explained that it seemed thick and chewy... He said that it (and the pappardelle) can hold up to 12 minutes of cooking. And that they prefer the rigorous boil. But he did say that he would probably change the cooking recommendation to 8 minutes whereas I had used the pappardelle 5-6 minutes as my guide.
Along with the stuffed pastas, we bought the dried lumachelle and garganelli. The lumachelle has lemon zest and cinnamon in it. Interesting.
We also picked up this melon and the long "suyo long" cucumber from McMullan. From Burge, we got some good looking okra. And from Green Ola, those muscadines, stringless beans, and figs.
Izzy's Cheese was there and the mozzarella was moist and delicious so I got one of those. And I've been toting around a gift certificate from Spotted Trotter since the High on the Hog event in like 2010, so I traded that in finally for some genoa salami.
These lettuces are from McMullan along with the bag of tomatoes. The loose tomatoes are from Burge. The baby zucchini, pretty okra (which I had just read about in the Seed Savers catalog the night before!), and chanterelles are all from Indian Ridge.
