Brunch at Egg Harbor Cafe

We are now frequent visitors to Roswell Road just outside 285. It's a pretty busy stretch traffic-wise, but I'm slowly learning all that it has to offer. Yes, I'm truly suburban now. I had seen Egg Harbor Cafe (eggharborcafe.com) before, but hadn't heard anything about it and so, stayed away.

And then at the office a couple weeks ago, I heard someone was going there for lunch and it prompted someone else who had been there to chime in. And I heard that their breakfast/brunch offerings were good.

They open at something like 6.30 and close at 2. Josh and I arrived on a Saturday, shortly before noon, I believe. There was a decent waiting time. 35 minutes, he quoted, but it ended up being 20.

They run an efficient house at Egg Harbor and it's really only the wandering, meandering, loitering customers who make it not so. All the staff seemed pretty young -- and blond, to me. The table comes preset with a water pitcher for camels like Josh. When you order coffee or soda, they leave a thing so you can refill on your own.

As someone who loves going out for breakfast, I was thrilled. I loved the skillets at Le Peep when I was younger so I was happy to see a mix of them here.

Josh ordered this Bavarian Benedict, mostly because it came on "potato pancakes" which we would probably call hash browns now that we've seen them. I still think he liked it because he ate it all.

For me, I couldn't pass up the two eggs over hash. The hash is probably from a can given its perfect and uniform potato squares. It was a tad salty but still in a very good way. For the last several years, I have been ordering my eggs as over easy, but there is really no reason not to get them sunny side up. So I did. And I didn't regret it. Perfectly cooked, eggs still super runny. I would say one of the best damn eggs I've ever had.

The english muffins were fine. The top one you can see had a really nice crisp to it. The thicker one below it did not. I did not finish that one. They serve a small amount of "homemade" preserves. It is definitely berry but we think it's more than just one type of berry.

As for the coffee, I wasn't spectacularly excited about it. It was hard to accurately gauge the sugar for it. I will get it right eventually, I am sure.

Like most of the egg dishes, mine came with potatoes. But it says on the menu that you can easily sub in their grits. There are plain grits and white cheddar grits. The server recommended the latter, so that is what I got. They were good.

Overall, I liked Egg Harbor very much. We were in and out in about an hour -- maybe it was even 40 minutes. We weren't rushed at all and service checked in on us a couple times, just enough to be attentive but not annoying. Definitely a keeper on the list. I wonder if I'll ever order anything besides the hash.
