Shrimp tacos
Since we moved, Whole Foods has become our main market. I've mostly embraced their Whole Foods/365 brand, hoping that since I've come to trust Whole Foods as an overall brand, that they are both cost-effective and good for the environment, etc. I also hope they are tasty.
I admit I haven't spent a lot of time in different parts of the store. We still get most of our veg at PRFM but I fill in with local Whole Foods stuff when needed. their bulk rice/grain/nuts area is pretty impressive and we've bought a few things. I'm afraid to buy too much until I actually wash all the new glass jars I bought. (I did see one of those little beetles we had at the old house yesterday and I almost went into a frenzy.)
I spend time always looking (and mentally comparing prices) in the seafood and meat areas. I find much of the meat to be seriously overpriced even just compared to YDFM.
But anyway. Josh was wandering around looking for something and I found myself staring at the marinade/sauce section for some time. We are pretty big fans of Rick Bayless and keep jars of his tasty salsa on hand. I found that he had packaged marinades for meat. Since they just coincidentally were on sale, we bought the one for beef and shrimp/fish.
Since I got home early on the 3rd, I took out a bag of Sweet Savannah Shrimp that we have probably had for two years (eek) and defrosted them. Now, you have to let this super fresh (even if it was no longer fresh to me) shrimp defrost for a long time or it's a bitch to peel. I deheaded them (we have more shrimp heads and shrimp head stock that you would think is possible) and marinaded them for 30 minutes.
It was raining so I pulled out my grill pan (which is not in a good home) and cooked them according to the package. I had shredded some cabbage, cut up some tomatoes and an avocado, and a serrano pepper for Josh.
Voila! A quick dinner, at least by the time I decided to start cooking.
Hm. I see that the HTML version of Blogger no longer wants to identify that I've used line breaks. While that totally makes sense... ugh!! Oh wait, I found the option. Woot.
