A few weeks ago, I bought several herb plants, but then I wasn't able to pot them and they have been sitting on some metal shelves in the screened porch, withering in the heat. I've been trying to give them a bit of water every day, which also made me worry about the condition of the floor.
Finally, I had some time yesterday to pot them and I hope to buy some more today and pot those, too.
We go through a lot of parsley, so I bought two plants. They seem to basically be holding their own, but not really growing.
Next to it, the Greek oregano looks a little sad, but hopefully, it will take to its new home.
I put this earth box in the shade of one of the eaves in the hope that it will get some full sun and then some shade throughout the day.
Here, we have basil on the left. It's been pretty droopy, but it has been growing some.
In the middle are the chives which also look droopy but have been growing. It would probably grow faster if I harvested some.
And then on the right is some mint which looks pretty sad, but there are a lot of little leaves growing in at the bottom.
Like the first box, this one is placed so that it will have some shade during the day.
In the pots we had, I planted rosemary -- we also brought one from the other house -- as well as a pretty sad looking thyme plant. L+H found that we have some ground cover that is really a growing patch of thyme so even if the plant fails, we're in good shape. I also moved and rooted some of the succulents I had from the old house which have managed to survive. They are all in another awning so they will get some shade.
I hope to get some more cactus soil today so I can plant the rest of my new succulents. I also want to get a few coleus or lantana and perhaps another dill and cilantro plant to round out the fact that mine are dead dead dead.
Last year, we grew Chinese eggplants. At some point, I got lazy and stopped harvesting them. I think they went to see in the pot and, despite the fact that they got no water and a TON of sun, they are sprouting.
We have one mondo plant and two littler plants. We'll see if/how they turn out.
