Well, I don't really believe in making new years resolutions, but, in fact, I've voiced some desires, and we'll see if I stick to them or not.
Last year, I resolved to finally make pizza and to master stuffed pastas. Neither of those things happened, but then again, it was a rough year for us. I'm not completely settled into my new kitchen yet, but things are falling into a rhythm and I hope to have everything really where it should be in a few months. To me, that includes the return of my tv, where I can endlessly play some movie that Josh only catches the occasion snippet of, yet it still can drive him batty in its repetition.
1: I will finish setting up the kitchen.
Things at work have been changing, as they always are. There is some quotation out there that the only thing for certain is change. I guess that's how it is. Some people think I am adverse to change. That's not true. What I dislike is "all this stuff is going to change in this way". And then they say it's not going into effect now and don't give you a date when it will. For instance, I hate six-month transitions that don't have plans.
All that doesn't mean much. But when we moved and we gained a nice sun room and a nice screened in porch, I started planting some vegetables and I decided that I would actually be home to dig in the dirt and enjoy it, nevermind that the best time to harvest and water and all that is in the morning.
2: I will spend fewer hours at the office and come home earlier. I've never been able to keep my hours in the office to eight a day, but dammit, I am going to try!
Well, I never did get around to the pizza and stuffed pasta but I do have a collection of pasta makers. And now that I have an electric oven, I really should work on pizza. But one can try to do too much so I'll aim low.
3: I will make pizza.
When things are tumultuous, and they aren't usually, I get into a funk of no cooking. That means we eat out a lot and a backlog of items in the freezer builds up. I've gotten decent at storing up some frozen meals (turkey pot pies, pesto, breakfast burritos, meatballs and sausage with sauce) though I wish I could get back into eating better at home during the week. I'm no longer a fan of getting home and then either I have to start cooking immediately (which doesn't get me much further with #2) or else eating at 9pm. Somewhere, there is a balance. I hope to find it.
4: I will start cooking regularly.
The rest of it, well, I think it will sort itself out. We'll see how it goes.
Happy new year!
