Hawk!
I may have mentioned before that we have a hawk or three that live in our neighborhood.
We'd seen evidence of the hawk from some random yard critter guts on the driveway and then seeing it perch once on the edge of my vegetable pots.
Well, the day after Christmas, Josh was making coffee and looked out the window and saw that she was sitting on my orange goat! So we got a few pictures and she sat there quietly, just hanging out.
I had gotten Josh a pair of binoculars and a bird guide book so based on her markings, we were able to identify her as a Northern Harrier. Not sure if her mate is in the area or if there is a mate, but we were excited to see her just hanging out.
Chances are that she was actually scoping out some yard critters (yay) or some birds (sad) who come to eat from the feeder. There has been a lot of rain so the bird bath has been full, but so far, there hasn't been any interest from the birds.
We are thinking about getting a standalone bird feeder like our neighbor has. She always has an impressive presence of jays and cardinals.
