Floataway

We didn't feel like cooking last night, despite all the new goodies that we bought at the farmers market. So we went to Floataway early, around 6.30, after running some errands. We were surprised that the bar was pretty full! All the seats at the bar proper were taken and of them, four were eating dinner. One of the corner tables was occupied and of the chairs in the middle, two were taken. So we took the other corner table which is cozy though a little awkward at times.

To start, I went with the bermuda sour again and Josh had a Square One gimlet. After a long week, we had trouble deciding on the menu but when we did finally order, it came out quickly.

To start, we had the arugula dressed with olive oil and parmesan. And also the blue crab fritter with remoulade. It was very tasty though I ad to admit that I'm surprised that for the price ($15) that the crabmeat is so mushy (not jumbo lumpy at all) and there is only one. The rest of Floataway's menu is always so price-valued, but this one seems off. After polishing these off, we felt much better and the liquor was starting to do its work.

We switched to pinot (by the glass) and the fennel pasta with roasted fennel, fennel sausage, and fennel pollen arrived. It was delicious.

After that, a veal porterhouse (med rare) with roasted spring onions arrived with our sides of braised greens and crispy fried onions. The onions are the same as with the piccolo fritto and really, the amount they give you is far more than you could ever eat. They were a little salty, but good. The braised greens were delicious, and the champagne vinegar on them was a very nice balance. The veal porterhouse itself was cooked well and they countered the blandness of veal by seriously salting the outside, which I found to be a little much in some moments. I picked up the bone to munch on it.

To close out the meal, we had decaf coffee and a plate of the toffee cake madelines.

After a long week and then getting up early for the farmers market, I fell asleep in the car and then went to bed as soon as I got home.
