Tuesday @ Taka

I guess there really are perks to going to one place for dinner on the same night every week. When I go to Taka by myself, typically I try to go earlier so that I can also be home earlier. Tonight, however, I was at the office until almost 7.30, so I hoped that it wouldn't be too busy so I could still get out at a decent time.

When I walked in and took my seat at the sushi bar, Taka told me that he already had a fish head cooking for me and that it would be ready in just a few minutes. Out came an amadai (tile fish) fish head in a sweet soy-based gingery broth. Yum.

Then I got the half omakase. The first plate was live giant clam and sayori. Delicious. Second was tuna and chu-toro. Also delicious. Third, and last, was a live scallop and then an "extra-"mini don. The mini don is ikura, toro, and uni over rice. This was in a bowl a little larger than a soy sauce dish (pictured at right). It was SO delicious.

An excellent end to a really long day.
