Saturday morning market

A sudden trip to Kansas left a lot of stuff wallowing in the fridge alone. I think the worst of it looks like some lettuce, which still looks mostly salvageable, some filet beans I did have to toss, and one serving left of the chanterelles and hedgehogs which I think can mostly be salvaged. We have vegetarian friends coming over for dinner tonight so I was more generous with the quantity we bought and then Josh reminded me that with the July 4th holiday, we will be home more. Well, we should have a good amount of stuff to eat. About the vegetarian thing, when I was in Whole Foods at the meat counter just browsing as I like to do, I did say, "well, we are having vegetarians for dinner..." Right, I am eating vegetarians for dinner. Even though I think our spread will be good, one of our guests stays away from gluten and dairy so I am still figuring things out. So I bought some heartily-sized portobellos to be sure we have enough.
We have the ever-present shisitos from Burge along with some of their filet beans and the first crop of okra we've seen. There is also a long green pepper which they claim is pretty mild and not sweet or spicy. I wonder what it will taste like. We also got some blueberries from them. We actually still had blueberries, so I am freezing these and we will enjoy them later when they are out of season. There is also some Burge Chinese eggplant which looks okay. One of them is a little damaged but the rest of it should be fine. There are also some potatoes which I'm pretty excited for. The zebra and yellow squash are from Indian Ridge and they are absolutely gorgeous. We also picked up some dried garganelli from Storico Fresco.
Those shisitos stayed for this picture but we only bought one package. Attention whores. We got a nice selection of tomatoes -- a few extra since we have guests even though we still have cherry tomatoes from last week -- and some beautiful cucumbers, all from McMullan Family Farms.
Green leaf and red leaf lettuces plus arugula from McMullan Family Farms. We also picked up some bacon from Pine St. And I pre-ordered a couple stuffed pastas from Storico Fresco. Granted, I have to email myself to remind myself to place pre-orders, but I am a HUGE fan of the pre-ordering system. I chose the pi fasacc (taleggio, grana padono, handmade ricotta and herbs) and tortelloni (ricotta, fresh parmigiano and spices). I had also wanted the culingionis but they weren't making it this week. Too bad for me. Does that sound dirty to anyone else or just to me?
We also got a jar of some cocktail base from H&F Bottle Shop which I thought was better without the gin they recommended... Plus more Decimal Place Farm feta. Although we still have some feta from Whole Foods plus more of the Decimal Place feta that I like to crumble on top of stuff, it keeps and we love it. We also got two whole chickens and two packages of chicken wings from Heritage Farms -- more of that pre-ordering in action. It took a long time to itemize and put everything away, but the fridge is looking pretty good! I should go check on and package those blueberries.
