Winter CSA, week four
You might wonder what happened to winter CSA, week three. Well, last week, the power was out in the area of Buckhead where our pickup is (St Phillip's Cathedral), so our friend took the CSA home with her. Unfortunately, this didn't really fit into our plans and it was turning out impossibly to sync up to get it.
It was sad to miss out on week three, but these things happens. This is what we missed out on: Arugula, Carrots, Head Lettuce, Sugar Snap Peas, Cherry Tomato Mix, Red Tomatoes, Turnip Greens.
So. For week four, our friend again had to take our CSA home and bring it back for Josh to get it on Friday. I would say we really owe her, and we probably do, but since we donated last week's CSA to her, hopefully we are near even.
This week: Golden and Red Beets, Carrots, Head Lettuce, Carola Potatoes, Pink Beauty Radish, Hakurei Salad Turnips, Red Tomatoes.
It is the last week for tomatoes and they are beautiful and we got a lot. Very exciting. We still have some radishes and turnips from two weeks ago.
I am defrosting the oldest (labelled) thing in our freezer, which is a Star Provisions 4-bone lamb rack from February 2009. Well, it's vacuum sealed. I think it'll be okay.
With that, I'm planning to roast all the turnips and perhaps the carrots. I'm sure we will have a salad. I might roast the beets but I might wait. The beets came with their stems attached and the red ones constantly threatened to stain everything with their juice.
No idea what to do with the radishes but they are so cute. Josh also bought a ton of kumquats for that dinner at Gena's and I think I am going to pickle them.
