Dinner at Bocado

We love love love Bocado.

We don't go nearly enough and it had been a while since we had been due to holidays and flu and busy-ness at work. So we specifically planned to head out to Bocado for dinner last weekend.

As usual, we sat at the bar. We saw Brian and Todd and said hi. We arrived so early (6pm) that we were able to talk with David a lot about drinks and general debauchery. He's really gotten even more into his groove with drinks and throughout the night, he repeatedly made me drinks off the menu. They were delicious.

When we first sat down, Todd had come out with a sliced pig's trotter (in terrine form) saying he had just finished making them and they were a special on the menu. Well, we had to get it. Crispy tamworth pig trotters, creamed leeks, roasted apples, quince.

The trotters were crisp, their filling unctuous and delicious. Here's what they looked like as you cut into them.

I have some pig trotters in the freezer from Heritage Farm. Although I had been looking for recipes for weeks that enabled me to eat them whole, I have a good-looking recipe from Jannifer McLagan's newest Odd Bits to braise/poach the trotters, then make the terrine, slice and dredge, then fry. Perhaps that really is the way to go.

Moving on, american kobe steak tartare, tranditional garnish, coriander adn sea salt flat bread. This is one of the best steak tartares in the city. I love it.

I enjoy the starters the most at Bocado. We had already decided on mains, so we did another starter to round out the meal. Salad of beets, orange, avocado, hazelnuts, fennel, faro, feta, balsamic vinaigrette. This was a hearty and delicious, well-balanced salad.

Early on a Saturday night? Clearly, we had to get the lobster roll with tomato bisque. The lobster roll is served as I like it. Toasted bun (at least, I think so), lobster salad with mayo mixture. Originally, I was not excited by the concept of the tomato bisque, but when I ate some, it was so rich and delicious. So good.

And then we had also decided to split a burger. Best damn burger. They split it for us -- delicious -- and we each got our herb fries with buttermilk ranch. Yum!

A delicious delicious dinner. Four luscious drinks. Love coming to Bocado.
