Sashimi

I've always been pretty predictable. When I get to Taka, they take away my water glass and bring me my green tea. They don't bring me ginger but they bring me the soy sauce brush. This is because I always follow the same pattern. This also means that sometimes when Josh comes with me, we have to ask for ginger. Poor Josh.

So there's nothing wrong with ordering what you like and know. I like to start off with an app (surprise), usually the ankimo which is monkfish liver pate. (And if it isn't, it's because I don't know Japanese.) If not that, sometimes the tuna tartare. And sometimes some other things.

Then I like to move on to the sashimi omakase. It's not actually on the menu, but Taka does it happily and it makes me really happy. Not to mention that it always shows up on one plate which usually speeds up my service a bit.

It's always good, but sometimes there are things that are just good. I always eat those things first. But on this day in particular, everything was spectacularly good. Two of the things I hadn't had before but they were super briny. Plus flounder fins. The tako was super tender. God, it was so good. I've been craving it again ever since.

And then I like to finish off with an uni with quail egg. My mother would probably start lecturing me about cholesterol and fat if I told her I have two quail eggs every week (or so) but it's a really great way to finish off the meal. I always leave happy, full, and sated.
