It's been a while since I posted about a market day, mainly because we haven't been to the farmers market! I know it's bad of us, but being as busy as we are, it's nice to sleep in on Saturday mornings. Today though, we had to make it to pick up our lamb share from Heritage Farm.
Along with our trip to the farmers market, we also him Buford Highway where I stocked up on some things that we use for Korean cooking along with sesame oil and some Japanese soy sauce. I'm really surprised how quickly we go through sesame oil with Korean food, but damn it's good, so that's okay.
Here we have some Hennessey Romaine and hakurei turnips along with some McMullan filet beans, carrots, and tomatoes, plus a green ola sweet pepper. The sweet pepper has already become part of a batch of htipiti that I made for Josh. The other things aren't yet tapped for anything.
Then we got some broccoli leaves, yukons, and a sweet potato from McMullan. Apparently the broccoli leaves are treated much like collards but they taste like broccoli. That will be interesting to play with. From Riverview, we got a cabbage and butternut squash. Josh wants me to saute the cabbage and we will see how that goes. We also got some beautiful radishes from Burge which I've pickled and barely found room for in the fridge.
We asked around for a winter CSA since we haven't been to the market much. Seems like people are thinking about doing them. I, for one, am excited.
Moving on to the meat portion of our purchase, we picked up our lamb share which we preordered from Heritage Farms. We got a leg of lamb, a 6-bone lamb roast, a neck roast, 2 lamb shanks, and 6 packages of 2 lamb chops each. All that for about $130.
We also picked up chicken feet, chicken wings, and a pork shoulder for the freezer.
It's about Josh's birthday and he asked for Korean fried chicken wings. So I am using the wings for that. I hope they turn out okay. The chickie feet are for me. Oh yeah, and some chicken necks for stock.
