Surely you didn't think that we spent a week out on the west coast and only had one post of food to show for it!
We spent some time in Portland -- probably the most targeted for food actually. But that will come later. Here's the random food that we had around Portland.
We flew into Portland about mid-afternoon. After collecting our gate-checked bags and rental car, we headed into Portland for lunch. A friend had sent over a list of potential places, and we ended up selecting Dan and Louis Oyster Bar (www.danandlouis.com/) because what else do you want on the west coast but some awesome oysters?
We were completely starving. Josh ordered this dunfeness crab and bay shrimp cocktail to start to get some food in our tummy. The place was packed and the kitchen was running slowly. They looked short-handed.
We got this premium oyster sampler. Boomstick, Kumamoto, Netart (Oregon), Olympia, Seacow, Shigoku.
The Kumamotos and Netarts were our favorites. The Shigokus tasted different from the ones we normally have. So we got a dozen of Kumamotos and Netarts. Yum.
Josh got the broiled prawns, which our server recommended. Pretty tasty, though not a huge serving.
And for me, I got the clam chowder. Pretty good.
Then we drove to the beach house.
We returned a few days later before our dinner at Beast. We needed lunch. Josh found Frank's Noodle House near the hotel, which apparently has been on Food Network. They had a good rating on Zagat and make their noodles by hand.
The restaurant is in a little house which was sparse, but I found kind of reminiscently endearing.
We had just missed lunch, so we had to go full servings. Josh opted for the stir-fried noodles with shrimp. Not bad.
I opted for the noodles in soup with beef. Reminded me a little of our classic beef noodle soup at Chef Liu, but not as good. Oh well.
