We had a rather late, filling lunch today at Red Pepper Taqueria. Before we had gorged ourselves, we had talked about heading over to the Dekalb FM to see if they had a branzino. But being as full as we were, we decided to head over to Whole Foods to see what they had.
I walked down the rows of produce and meat. And I wandered happily through the food section.
Just two nights ago, I had been reading the March 2012 Bon Appetit which talked about the Creminelli salumi out of Salt Lake City but is from a long line of salumi makers (since the 1600s!) out of Italy. And Lo, what did I see there in Whole Foods? That's right.
So we selected two Carminelli salumi, partially from our own tastes, partially from the recommendation of someone at the shop. The Casalingo (a classic s+p salumi) and the tartufo (I mean, who doesn't love truffles? Wait, if you don't love truffles, I'm not sure if we can be friends. Except for Nancy. She has a special exception.)
Ahem. Also, I wanted to get some mozzarella. They only had one type of bufala, and it was squishy in my hand but... I went with it. I asked if they had any imported (Puglian) burrata but we were not in luck. It's just as well.
As a light snack, I sliced up the salumi and mozzarella.
The salumi are good, though I admin that I prefer the Pine St truffle salami over the tartufo. The casalingo is okay, but again, I prefer the Pine St petit salami.
And then there is the the bufala. Holy shit, it's the best bufala I've put in my mouth. It had already cracked in the package and it was soft in the middle. But oh, it's so good. The best think I put in my mouth today. Probably since that porchetta. Cuz that porchetta was damn good. Yum. We have a piece in the fridge. I wonder if I could convince Josh to get some more bufala tomorrow...
