Floataway

I love Floataway. I love Floataway's bartender, Dawn Marie. I hope I'm spelling that right. Saturday we headed over there for a nice laid back dinner. We started off with a drink at the bar and then decided to eat there too. It was a real blast. And even though it was laid back, it was still four hours. I know, impressive.

I started off with a delicious strawberry mojito. Not too sweet. Delicious. Josh got ... you know, I don't know what he got. But it didn't go well with my mojito. Okay, fine, I had two mojitos. Josh had two different drinks. Both had bitters in them and didn't go with my mojitos.

We started off with a cold asparagus salad. Fat jumbo asparagus from California with olive oil and lemon, topped off with egg and parmigiano. The egg looked a lot like when I hard boil eggs and mash up the egg into little bits. Delicious. Josh ate most of this huge pile of asparagus. He's dangerous around asparagus. If I don't pay attention, I don't get any.

We also got the wild mushroom pizza which was also topped with nettles, fresh basil, and a sprinkling of red pepper flakes. Also incredibly delicious. And also heated up well today for lunch.

Moving on, we got the cheese plate which had a goat's milk soft rind, a cow's milk soft rind (that Josh actually liked a lot), a sheep's semi-hard, and the Sweet Grass Dairy's Asher Blue which was very delicious. It also came with marcona almonds, quince paste, spiced pecans, and a beet sorbet which was an odd super silky texture and also didn't melt.

For an entree (I said we were there for four hours, right?), I got the quail naturally, which came with more fat asparagus and arugula. The quail were more charred than usual and one was very charry. Actually, the one that was very charry also had a lot of the small bones in the back. I think he was not quite ready for the table. Josh got the roast chicken which is probably sous-vided and then grilled immediately before serving.

We had a nice Willamette Valley pinot with dinner. Just a glass each.

For dessert, we got a delectable caramel pot de creme which came with little toffee cake madelines. We also split a glass each of the Warre's 20 yr port and a nice Sauternes. I was a bigger fan of the Sauternes.

All in all, a fine meal. I really enjoyed sitting at the bar. Lots of action to watch.
