When we first moved to Chamblee, we asked our friends who lived in the area for food recommendations and heard about Vintage Pizza more than once. However, we are pizza snobs and area wary of trying new pizza places. But when you're poor and actually in the mood to try something new, you have to put yourself out there.
Enter Vintage Pizza. It's located in the center of Old Chamblee, which we actually circled around a few times before arriving. We've actually been twice now, and I have to say that I enjoy it. I wouldn't say that's any substitute for Antico Pizza, but that's down there in midtown and we're up here in Chamblee.
The first time, we sat inside in the main bar area. It was a Friday or Saturday night, and the place was pretty empty. Clearly, however, their rush had just left.
The second time, we crossed over to the "adult only area" which sounds pretty dirty, but it wasn't. We had the patio all to ourselves until another lady showed up when we were just finishing up. They turned the tv to whatever we wanted -- which you will be amazed to know was football. Well, it was better than commentary on Nascar.
I'm a fan of the adult-only area.
Both times we got a small house salad and split it. It's much like the fellini's salad except better. Lettuce, grape tomatoes, mozzarella. A thick cut of green pepper and onion that always go to Josh. And here, housemade Italian dressing.
Here you only see my half, but it's a pretty good-sized salad for $4.
And then, we get a large pizza because I like leftovers. The cheese is good. Thin, and bubbled just how I like it. They add cheese on top of toppings, of which I am not a fan. The bottom was a bit blond for my taste.
The second time we went, I asked for it extra crispy which turned out great. And I asked for no cheese on top of the mushrooms, which they mostly adhered to. It was better.
Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it. Without alcohol, we could probably get away with a $20 or so dinner. I tend to drink Yuengling though and Josh will get ... Bud Light. I know, I was shocked too.
