A week alone

Josh was travelling so I was left to my own dinner devices for three whole nights in a row. I planned it out before he even left town.

Night one. Taka.

There really is something to be said for being a regular and ordering predictably.
I sat at the bar in my normal seat. As I was sitting down, they asked me, "tuna tartare?" I had actually thought about getting a special but why argue with fate? "Sure!" I sat down and they brought me my hot towel, a mug of hot green tea, the soy sauce brush for my sashimi.

As I finished my sashimi, Taka behind the bar asked, "sashimi omakase?" "Definitely! Can you uni it up?" As you may know, recent bad weather in California has made uni scarce. Taka says this won't be a problem anymore, but I've been mostly uni-free for a while.

It looks awesome, doesn't it? It was.

And for dessert, my usual: uni with quail egg. My normal server came out to ask me if I wanted it as usual, but I had already asked Taka. For sweet dessert, green tea ice cream mochi. Eaten with a fork, which made it far more enjoyable.

Night two. Pho at pho dai loi.

Large bowl. Marble brisket, soft tendon, bible tripe. Lemonade with soda. Damn delicious. Still craving more.

Night three. Banh mi to go from Lee's Bakery.

I ate one in the car while driving home. :)

And then, Josh came home. We went to L'Thai. Josh got the green curry. I devoured an excellent sea bass gingerine by myself. I love the sauce with this and also the distinct crunch on the fish. The top of the fish stays crispy through the whole dish. So delicious.

Nice to have my favorites.
