Dinner at 246

Eating at 246 is one of our regular activities. Dinner, lunch, brunch. Weeknight, weekends. We like to sit at the bar but sometimes we mix it up and sit at a table. One of my first actions when we arrive is usually to stop in to say hi to Drew. That's also when I ask him about any specials he has, official ones or special ones just for us.

These oysters are one of those us-specials. I used to go to Floataway a lot when Drew was there. I usually started off with a dozen kumamoto oysters with champagne mignonette. I don't have enough oysters in my life, you know.

But 246 doesn't carry oysters. Yet. I ask Drew about them every time and they showed up on the new years menu. Perhaps he was testing the market. Anyway, one of the nights we were in there for dinner, Drew mentioned he had oysters for us. Josh and I each got one of these cute little bowls with our kumamotos. Delicious.

Weeknight dinner. I think it was Monday or Tuesday and the bar was the slowest I've ever seen it. I was drinking Pimms cups that night, the ones with strawberries. To start, I got the humboldt fog, a stinky winnemere soft rind cheese, and la quercia prosciutto americano. All tasty, though I prefer la quercia's traditional prosciutto better.

Then I had the biana pizza. It comes with littleneck clams, still in the shell. And there's lardo, too. This is a pretty tasty pizza but there are a few changes I would want. 1) I like a lot of clams. These are okay but not really enough in my mind. And I understand why they leave them in the shell, but I'm not really a fan. 2) The lardo is cut too thickly. I wish it were in smaller pieces. 3) I'm a wuss so I wish it were a little less spicy. But I know most of the shellfish dishes at 246 tend to the spicy (too spicy for me) side.
