Market Day

Loot from the 5/14 market...

We grabbed two bags of spinach from Heritage Farm, which I also learned is too much spinach when you cook them together in one meal. One bag always feels like not enough. We also got broccoli and spring onions from Hennessey, sugar snaps from Burge. Josh was travelling this week so we went light on the greens.

For the freezer, I got eight chicken backs, which are rather smaller than I expected but I just asked for 4 lbs, so that I can make stock in the future. I also got two packages of chicken feet for me to eat while Josh was out of town and we also bought a whole chicken for the freezer. Yums.

We also went to star provisions to pick up some meat -- which I apparently got no pictures of, raw or beautifully grilled. They had Rustichella d'Abruzzo pasta which I can't remember when I read about it, but I think it was Bon Appetit. Anyway, we bought some. We also stopped by the local farmstand and got some lovely tomatoes from Woodland Gardens and some super fat asparagus. We've had a lot of asparagus this year, but that season is gone now.

We did a cab franc tasting, all from 2004, as a precursor to the grilled strip steaks. They were all tasty and excellent examples of their terroir. I admit, the Peju reserve was my favorite.
