It's been too long since we had gone to Bocado. I decided to go Tuesday, and I looked forward to it for the few days leading up to it. The space at Bocado is great. We got there in really good time so we were even early for our 6pm reservation and hung out at the bar having a drink.
We started out with the deviled eggs which were topped with crispy prosciutto and pickled onions. Oh my, they were fantastic. Unlike some other places (that I have mentioned, cough, not to compare them), the deviled egg itself was left alone: creamy, eggy, delicious. The combination with the prosciutto and pickled onions was so delicious. I would certainly start off every dinner with these eggs.
Next came the buffalo mozzarella with a warm eggplant calabrese. Calabrese is like a ratatouille and this one was chunky and tasty. The balance of mozz and eggplant against capers, olives, and basil was really good. This was a good tasty dish.
The corn chowder with fried green tomato croutons and avocado-cucumber-jalapeno relish was a new addition to the menu, so Chef Todd stopped by (many times throughout the night, actually) to see how we liked it. Delicious. The corn chowder itself was so rich and gorgeous. And sweet. Just like I always imagine a corn chowder in my head. The avocado, cucumber, jalapenos showed up as little caneles and they were smooth, nutty, crunchy. The jalapenos shone through without being spicy. I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of any croutons, even crunchy tasty green tomato ones, but Josh liked them a lot.
Chef Todd mentioned that we couldn't miss out on the Georgia peaches with a pistachio and arugula pesto with local blueberries and duck prosciutto. Who would have thought that a combination like this could have been so amazing. The peaches were incredibly sweet and delicious. I don't really get the opportunity to enjoy peaches in ripe perfection like this. And with the pesto! Yum!
So we took a break after four starters because we planned to get burgers. After a nice pause...
The burger stack showed up with herb fries and a side of buttermilk ranch. I really believe this is the best burger in Atlanta. Two delicious patties with American cheese. You can taste the Shake Shack in this burger. And then the fries are topped with garlic and herbs and with a dunk in the herby buttermilk ranch... Delicious. I just really love this burger.
No dessert for us. I was so full that I had to waddle out of the restaurant. Can't wait to go back! Also can't wait for the lobster roll to come back in season. That thing is awesome.
