Porter Bar

Today, A and I headed out to the Porter Bar for lunch. A graciously drove, which I always appreciate because it means that I can have a beer.

The Porter's beer list is extensive with a full page dedicated to drafts and a sectioned list based on type. For those of us with unrefined beer palates, it was a hard decision on what to drink. I like Guinness, Yuengling, and Newcastle. When necessary, I like Heineken. And during the summer, I like Magic Hat #9. I used to like Bass but I had a bad draft experience and wiped it off the list. So with such a range, I wasn't sure what to get. I finally settled on a Beamish Irish Stout which was described as being a good beer for Guinness drinkers. It was good, but a bit heavier on the finish than I like.

For my meal, I had the burger, medium-rare. It came with lettuce (ice-berg, I think), a nice fat slice of tomato, pickled red onions, and house-pickled... pickles. At least, they tasted like they were house-pickled. The burger was good, but somehow lacking. The bun was topped with tomato, onion, and cheese. It was good, but incredibly messy.

For an extra $1.50, you can upgrade the herb fries to an arugula salad with Sweet Grass Dairy fresh chevre, slivered almonds, and thinly sliced pickled golden beets. It was very good.

All in all, it was a good meal with good company. I'm interested to go back to try some of the other items like brandade. The fish and chips looked pretty good too.

Of course, I also want to try Holeman & Finch's Sunday brunch.
