It's been a long time since I posted, so we've gone out for Japanese a few times.
A pile of uni and Shoya Izakaya. Usually you get a good amount of uni when they have it. Love me some uni.
They didn't have sweet shrimp that day but the server recommended some hamachi that had come in from Japan that she said was very very good. We got it and, damn, it was really really good.
Mid-February, Taka sent out a note saying that he had really great toro and tuna. So we went. We got the requisite negi-toro don, of course, and then this sashimi, loaded up with toro and uni. A great meal!
We headed to Shoya Izakaya again. I loaded up on sashimi: uni, sweet, shrimp, orange clam, live scallop. And tuna tartare. It was awesome.
The live scallop sashimi apparently comes with this, too. I'm not quite sure what it was but it had an aftertaste of butter. I thought the roe was in there. I found it pretty chewy and not really that tasty. There was a large almost black item. No idea what that was either but tasted like tomalley. Anyway, I just ate it.
Also got my shrimp heads fried. Damn they are good there.
