For Christmas dinner, we ordered a cider-brined 5 lb ham from Pine Street Market. Five pounds is a lot for two people, but I figured there would be a nice opportunity for ham sandwiches with a spicy yellow mustard. Even if I did forget to buy cheese.
For a late breakfast, I broke into the ham for a western omelette. I had half a leftover green pepper from the paella yesterday, plus a random half an onion floating in the fridge. There's also some of the sharp cheddar I bought for a mac and cheese. Also I undercooked some Pine St bacon, which is sad. I hate undercooking bacon but I also hate burning bacon.
Merry Christmas to me!
I bought Josh a selection of Spanish meats which are sliced at La Tienda and then vacuum sealed and shipped. Two kinds of Iberico and a Serrano. I also bought two cans of these anchovy-stuffed olives of which there were a ton of reviews saying how great they were. Then I also picked up a beautiful piece of bacalao which I plan to use to make brandade and then some squid ink.
The fridge is out of control full right now. The ham is taking up a good amount of space. I bought all the ingredients plus pita for tzatziki and htipiti but Josh has been sick so I haven't made them yet. Those damn hydroponic bibb lettuces take up a lot of room, but Josh really likes them and they last a long time. Beyond that, there's those two orange juices (yum, vitamin C) plus a cored fresh pineapple (for cocktails, apparently) along with other random things taking up a lot of room. Seriously, we need to get eating.
