Earthbox deck gardening

We are approaching Josh's favorite season for sautes. His favorite is when we get some fresh corn in there. But this is second fiddle: okra, grape tomatoes, sweet peppers, red onions, and a touch of garlic. The okra is a mix of Burge and Hennessey. The red onions are also Burge. The tomatoes and sweet peppers are Hennessey. Still, not bad.

The earthboxes are doing very well on the deck, but the cucumber/pepper/eggplant box is drinking the most and needs to refilled almost completely every day. As you can see, the cucumber is a viney one and it has taken over most of the deck. Josh had already tried to keep the vines in check by pulling them back into the deck. There are a lot of little cucumbers growing all over the place.

We have a few good-sized cucumbers already, but this one is winning. It's about six inches long and totally ready to pick. We'll be eating this one today or tomorrow.

Moving on to the squash plant, we have a few little patty pans growing at a pretty slow rate, but I'm just excited to have them at all.

We have a good amount of squash blossoms so I had to look up which were the males so that I can cut them off and eat them as blossoms. It's the ones on a thinner stalk. Anyway, I'll harvest a few of those and try them out.

We have one eggplant. One. But it's nine inches long. It's ready to pick though so I really need to cut that thing off the vine and eat it. Hopefully more will grow after I harvest it.

These are numexes, which I think are a kind of New Mexican chile. Naturally, we have a lot of the spicy things.

These are sweet Italian finger peppers which should also be good. Happily, we have a few of these too.

I'm on my second cocktail so it's hard to wax poetical about any of them. I'm sure you didn't want to hear it anyway. :)
