Josh was traveling so I was on my own for dinner for two nights. I was debating what to do, but then my haircut was postponed and I was free early on a Thursday night! The rain was brutal but going anywhere was going to suck. 40 minutes after I set out, I was sitting alone in my second favorite seat at the Hayakawa bar. (Admittedly, my favorite seat is one seat to the right where I can see the board of the sushi chef, but no one was at that spot anyway.)
Since I was solo, I decided that I would go on the cheap, which usually means a fish head and then a small don.
Red snapper head. This one was pretty good, but not as amazing as usual. Some of the outer areas were overcooked and the fish itself had some of the too fishy -- not cleaned well -- areas that I pulled out. But overall, still tasty, of course.
While I was waiting on the fish head, Art came out so of course I decided that I would have sushi. I told him that I had a fish head coming but then I would get some sushi. He said he would go do some work in the back, but he would come back out when I was ready. How nice!
So I figured that meant that I would have a smaller omakase. Not sure that was the truth as I was really hurting at the end.
Delicious selection of nigiri.
Mmmm, Japanese uni and Japanese octopus. There was a nice guy who sat next to me who was surreptitiously watching my meal while he waited for a coworker. I only bring this up that he asked me what the one thing he shouldn't miss out on was and I said the Japanese raw octopus.
You've seen the rest of this before so I'll leave it without commentary. :)
