Driveway gardening

It continues to be difficult to blog when it's hard to get photos from my phone to my computer. My phone died a couple months ago -- I think because I took it to the beach, even though it was safely tucked into a bag all the time -- and the replacement has a few quirks, one of which is not letting me connect as a drive to my computer. This means that I have to email myself photos, which is rather slow.

I have been cooking though. Not an extreme lot, mostly Sundays through Wednesdays. By Thursday, I'm tired of cooking and we end up going out instead.

We've been trying to go pescetarian during the week so we have been buying/testing the Whole Foods frozen fish. It's better than hitting Whole Foods on a week night. The fish turns out a little soggy, so I have a new process with paper towels.

In other news, the garden is doing really well. This year, I did all heirloom veggies with seeds from Baker Creek. Some of the tomatoes were small to start, but as you can see in the photos, they are all doing well. There is a lot of fruit, and a couple have even ripened enough to pick.

The zucchini are also doing well. We enjoyed some blossoms early in the season and we'll eat the first of the fruit tonight.

We had raspberries from both plants (one black and one red) and it looks like the red will fruit again even if the black looks done for the season.

We also have potatoes and onions that I planted in February. We'll have some of both tonight with some scallops. Looking forward to eating more local than we have ever eaten before!

The plants look great! Watch out for squash bugs on the zukes. The eggs look like strawberry seeds, clustered on the top or bottom of the leaves. Scrape them off with a fingernail. The adults are large, brown, shield-shaped. The young are tiny and grey. Kill them all with extreme prejudice. I've been using soapy water in a spray bottle.
