Happy New Year!

Well, it's the new year, or will be, in about 4 1/2 hours. I actually thought it was already later than it is, so it's kind of sad to think that I'm as tired as I am. And why am I tired? No real reason, since I'm on something like day 11 of a 12-day vacation. I was up late reading the second Devil Wears Prada book. I could never sleep when reading that book. It wigs me out, big time.

We're skipping a party that friends are throwing, mostly because I'm tired and don't really want to have to shower and get ready, just to leave like old people around 11 when I'm tired.

So you are wondering what I did over the holiday? Some highlights:

- Made a ton of food including gumbo (which called for making shrimp and blue crab stock to replace what I was using); a batch of luscious bolognese, half of which was turned into two bolognese lasagnas; a large batch of chili, too large; lamb shanks braised with white beans; and Christmas dinner, whatever that was. Oh, a whole duck, which came out rather dry.

- Went to Antica Posta for a "low key" dinner which included white truffles a surprisingly really delicious smoked salmon and caviar appetizer. And it was still $500 with tip. Damn.

- Revisited Han Il Kwan which was as smoky as I remembered but also better service than Josh remembered, and quite tasty.

- Checked out Stone Bowl which was okay, but probably because we didn't get the tasting menu.

- Lots of hanging out with Max and playing computer games.

- Checkups for all the kitties at our new vet, which we love, and a cone head for Leo because he had an abscess, which started the whole trend for the vet visits. I'm happy to say they are all in good health. And they hate the car.

- Visited good friends with brand new (6 day old!) baby. Their house was cleaner than mine. I feel guilty.

- In the war against the car port, I cleaned out ONE thing.

- Donated all the clothes I pulled out of the closet two months ago and got my pea coat relined, which probably I probably should have taken as a sign to just get a new coat.

- Bought two furniture pieces I didn't know I needed from the Room & Board floor sample sale.

Of course, I didn't reorganize the guest room or clean up all the gardening containers or unpack the rest of the office as I wanted to.

I have also officially learned that this new computer set up is just not conducive to blogging, though I know that you are really tired of seeing all the Taka pictures, and there are a lot of those in there.

I'm both dreading (too much sleeping late) and looking forward to (no more sloth!) going back to work Thursday. I hope it starts off slowly.

Happy new year, all!
