Barcelona Wine Bar
Ever since I got my new phone, I am having severe issues getting pictures in focus. I think that the flash helps put it in focus but even with the auto setting and a really dark environment, it's not flashing. So I just set it to always flash, but that was last night and this picture is a couple weeks old. Damn.
Some coworkers set up a girls' night. They pretty much dragged me to go with them, and I'm glad. I had a really good time. We set out after work. The GPS on my phone got me there really fast, even faster than the group that left way before me. They also had valet parking which really made me happy because it looked way crowded.
There were five of us and we got a pretty big book in the bar area, which was pretty open around 6.45. By the time we left just after 9, it was so crowded with people three tows deep at the bar.
I saw there was a jamon in a holder, but when I asked if it was iberico, the server said it was mangalista. He set off to explain what that was, but only to explain the pig, not the style of curing. That occurred to me later and we ended not getting any.
We did get several starters: a cheese plate, the bacalao tortilla (which was not at all what I expected), lamb chops, and a caprese.
We also got two paellas, a small vegetarian one and the seafood one you see blurrily above. The shellfish was cooked beautifully, and I cheerfully ate all the shrimp heads. The paella itself wasn't as I hoped. There was no soccarat, not like I could ever get any in my own paellas, but I expected some from a Spanish place. And the flavor... maybe I just like something more seafoody, but I thought the flavor was kind of bland. So it was okay, but we had a lot left over, and I chose not to take any home.
But I liked the vibe and there was an amazing sherry list. Maybe we will go back for snacks sometime.
