Surely we must like a place if we go there anything "in a row". So two Sundays in a row for brunch seem pretty special. We met up with L+H for drinks and lunch, getting there around 1pm.
It's been at least a weekend since we were there, and most of the details are a blur now, but I wanted to record the general experience, at least. The drinks, as last time, were great. I got another high proof handshake and Josh got ... well, I have no idea.
The food was a different experience. We ordered the fries to start and our server was nice (and seemingly flaky). The sauces that we got arrived along with an extra gift sauce. The fries were really good as they were last time, though I didn't care much for the sauces we got - masaman and the smoked tomato mayo. A horseradish mayo was the surprise gift, and I found the horseradish to be too light so that you could barely tell it was there.
We got the peppadews again, which were good, but still, maybe a bit o' salt? We got rillettes which were tasty though we had to order more bread (that came quite slowly). L was in love with the marmalade (which was good) but when she ordered more to put on the rillettes, it took too long to arrive and ended up just being extra saucy.
We also tried the liver croquettes which H thought were the best thing we had. I thought the livery taste was good, but the consistency seemed odd, like a falafel without the occasional crunchy bit. One of these was left on the plate.
We were tempted by the pate until we learned that it was actually a mushroom-walnut concoction, which is kind of mean. Instead, we got the pig smörgås which ended up being a sad slice of benton's couuntry ham with some gruyere on a piece of white bread. The ham didn't even cover up the whole slice of bread. And there was some cherry thing under the ham that totally overpowered the entire bite. Ugh.
We also got some of the warm chickpea and cherry salad which sounded good except there were small chunks of aged provolone in it, and it was nasty. We barely touched this.
We got another order of fries to finish off the meal. This time, we got to order three sauces, but two only got two of what we ordered with a random third. We overheard the next table over also wondering "didn't we order x?" So at least we weren't the only ones.
The drinks here at really solid. The food, well, Josh thinks it's hit or miss. I'm starting to think it's just kind of bleh, except for the fries. But I don't like most of the sauces. It makes me wonder what I would get next time. Assuming there is a next time.
I parked in the pay lot that's just behind Parker's on Ponce and for some reason, the machine wouldn't take my ticket. After about five minutes of putting my ticket into the machine and it spitting it back out, I finally hit the "call" button to talk to a person. Happily, they picked up quickly. It was only another few minutes before they decided to open the gates for me. Next time, I am going to look at street parking or the county courthouse deck.
